Help

Get Pingfold working reliably.

Start with what went wrong: capturing a notification, delivering a Digest, or understanding a routing choice. Each has a different check.

Nothing is being captured

Open Settings → Health in Pingfold. Notification Access and a connected listener are separate checks: granting access does not prove that Android has kept the connection running. Use the recovery action shown for your current status, then return to Pingfold to recheck it.

Also check that the source app is allowed to post notifications in Android. If its notifications or a source channel are turned off, Pingfold may never receive those items. Enabling access later cannot recover notifications that were never captured. For device-specific checks, use the reliability guide.

A Digest has not arrived

  1. Open Settings → Digest. Check whether anything is waiting; an empty queue has nothing to deliver.
  2. Review the actual schedule. Manual delivery waits for you to choose Deliver now. Scheduled delivery can be delayed by Android background and power management.
  3. Check Pingfold's notification permission and its Digest channel. These control Pingfold's summary, independently of Notification Access.
  4. Use the recovery action shown, return to Pingfold, and recheck the status. If items are waiting, Deliver now is an explicit delivery action; clearing Digest is a different, destructive action.

A notification behaved unexpectedly

Open the item's local explanation before changing a setting. App defaults, matching Exceptions, Focus and active Profiles can produce different outcomes. Recognized calls, alarms and other protected notifications can remain Immediate because of Pingfold's safety rules.

Android may sound or vibrate before Pingfold receives a posted notification. Review the source app's sound and vibration controls in Android if that initial alert is the problem. Turning the channel or the app's notifications off can also stop future capture; it is not the same as choosing Digest in Pingfold.

A retained message is missing

Recent Content is optional, local and time-limited. Check whether it is enabled and whether the item is within your retention window. Deleted or expired text cannot be restored by turning the setting back on. An available activity record can still explain a routing decision without its message text.

Access and privacy questions

Why does Pingfold need Notification Access?

Android Notification Access lets Pingfold observe incoming notifications and apply Immediate, Digest, Block, and Exception behavior. Notification content stays on your device.

Why do I also need to allow Pingfold notifications?

On Android 13 and newer, Pingfold needs notification permission to show Digest summaries, Remind Later notifications, and reliability alerts.

Does a ready status guarantee delivery forever?

No. Health describes the current observed connection or permission state. Android settings, restarts and manufacturer background restrictions can change it. Return to the relevant recovery screen when the task stops working.

Does Pingfold upload my notification text?

No. Notification content is not uploaded to Pingfold servers for processing. Optional diagnostics and the optional Supporter service are isolated and do not receive notification content.

How do I turn off analytics or crash diagnostics?

Open Settings → Privacy & diagnostics. Usage analytics and Crash diagnostics are independent controls.

How do I clear notification history?

Open Settings → Notification History. You can change retention, disable Recent Content, or clear the local history.

New in Pingfold 1.1.0

These controls are available in Pingfold 1.1.0. Update through Google Play to use them.

  • Review before saving: app and cadence choices remain drafts until their separate Save actions. Existing Block choices and custom schedules are preserved; a conflicting settings edit needs a new review.
  • Keep local previews: turning this off for an app deletes its Recent Content and removes titles and snippets from waiting and delivered Digest items. The items and routing choices remain. Turning it back on saves future eligible captures.
  • Delivered catch-up: Inbox groups retained delivered items by app. Clear these previews applies only to the reviewed, visible delivered selection; waiting items and separate history are outside that action.
  • History search: combine app, time and outcome filters with eligible retained Recent Content. It does not search Digest previews, deleted text or previews excluded by your settings.
  • App protection: app lock and screenshot protection are free and controlled from App protection in Settings.
  • Profiles and transfer (PRO): overlapping Profiles combine explicit app overrides in saved priority order. Export/import includes Profile definitions, appearance and theme; privacy choices, active Profile state and notification data stay on this installation.
